lecture
For thousands of years, the Analects has been regarded as the primary text for understanding the thought of Confucius. However, it is not an easy text to grasp, and among the many powerful ideas in it, one of the most challenging is the emphasis that Confucius places on "ritual" (li). This talk will attempt to explain Confucius' view of ritual and its connection to virtue and other important elements of his philosophy, as a way of providing an introductory overview of the Analects.
